The past quarter-century has seen a shift in the renewables landscape

The renewables landscape has shifted in recent decades. Leading into the current millennium, gas and coal plants were dominant, supported by government contracts and driven by economics.

An energy partner in McMillan LLP in Toronto says wind and solar projects then became the focus, being driven by the environment. Mike Richmond notes that the shift has moved toward geothermal heating and cooling. But, energy today is being driven again by economics, only this time by private sector purchasers.

Hydrogen is an alternative energy source that is gaining in momentum and market share.
